Our History

What our name means:

We named our company RainStorm to convey our expertise in bringing, and keeping, interested visitors raining down on your website.

From its early beginnings as a search engine marketing consultancy to its current position as a full-service web development firm, RainStorm Consulting has thrived in its dedication to service and attention to detail.

As a research associate at an NIH-funded laboratory at the Ohio State University, Brian Rahill began working with the Internet long before most businesses even knew it existed. There, he became interested in the transformative power of the Internet to facilitate not just scientific inquiry, but also education and communication. While continuing his research, Brian also earned a Master's Degree studying the effects of technology on education.

In 1999, eager to utilize his accumulated experience with the web, Brian founded RainStorm Consulting to assist some of the earliest websites with search engine marketing, promotion, and strategies. Quickly becoming expert at promoting businesses via the emerging web, Brian soon expanded his practice to include web design and hosting. During this time, he also co-founded the successful website StopHazing.org, a nationally-recognized resource for hazing awareness and action.

Within two years, RainStorm hired its first employee, Ron Adams, and the firm expanded into dynamic, database-driven web development. During this time, RainStorm also began to offer secure, reliable web hosting to its primarily Maine and Ohio-based clients. As its web hosting offerings expanded to include clients throughout the U.S., RainStorm established one of its key competitive advantages by offering comprehensive, unlimited support to clients. Throughout company growth, the concept that a client can contact any member of the RainStorm team for support continues to this day.

From 2002-2005, RainStorm grew dramatically, doubling its web hosting capacity and client base and continuing to learn and master the most proven web technologies as quickly as they emerged. The firm also grew from a three-person to a five-person team, with each member contributing specific skills in design, programming, development, marketing, and web hosting.

While growth expanded its range of offerings, RainStorm remained dedicated to personal service and attention to detail in each aspect of client work.

Today, RainStorm is proud to draw upon its history as a consistent innovator while maintaining a commitment to superior service that has earned it a stellar record of successful projects and satisfied clients.
