How do I prevent my e-mail client from permanently leaving mail on the server?

Instructions for Outlook Express

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click Tools in the File menu and select Accounts
  3. Click the Mail tab and select the appropriate e-mail account for this domain.
  4. Click the Properties button.
  5. Click the Advanced tab.
  6. Remove the check next to Leave copy of messages on server or check Remove from server after __ days and put in a value of 3 in the box.
  7. Click OK and OK.  Now, click the Close button on the Accounts window.

Instructions for Outlook

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click Tools in the menu bar and select E-mail Accounts.
  3. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts.
  4. Click the Next button
  5. Select the e-mail account you want to edit.
  6. Click the Change/Properties button.
  7. In Outlook 2000/XP, click More Settings.  In previous Outlook versions, click the Advanced tab.
  8. Remove the check next to Leave a copy of messages on the server or check Remove from server after __ days and put a value of 3 in the box next to it.
  9. Click OK, then Next, then Finish.

Instructions for Windows Live Mail

  1. Open Windows Live Mail
  2. Click Tools in the menu bar and select Accounts.
  3. Select your account and click Properties.
  4. On the Properties page click on the Advanced Tab.
  5. Under Delivery, remove the check next to Leave a copy of messages on server.
  6. Click OK, then close all remaining windows.
