How do I prevent my e-mail client from permanently leaving mail on the server?
Instructions for Outlook Express
- Open Outlook Express
- Click Tools in the File menu and select Accounts
- Click the Mail tab and select the appropriate e-mail account for this domain.
- Click the Properties button.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Remove the check next to Leave copy of messages on server or check Remove from server after __ days and put in a value of 3 in the box.
- Click OK and OK. Now, click the Close button on the Accounts window.
Instructions for Outlook
- Open Outlook
- Click Tools in the menu bar and select E-mail Accounts.
- Select View or change existing e-mail accounts.
- Click the Next button
- Select the e-mail account you want to edit.
- Click the Change/Properties button.
- In Outlook 2000/XP, click More Settings. In previous Outlook versions, click the Advanced tab.
- Remove the check next to Leave a copy of messages on the server or check Remove from server after __ days and put a value of 3 in the box next to it.
- Click OK, then Next, then Finish.
Instructions for Windows Live Mail
- Open Windows Live Mail
- Click Tools in the menu bar and select Accounts.
- Select your account and click Properties.
- On the Properties page click on the Advanced Tab.
- Under Delivery, remove the check next to Leave a copy of messages on server.
- Click OK, then close all remaining windows.
