Why does some email come to me hours after it was sent?

There are many reasons that mail can be delayed, including high internet traffic and other problems unrelated to our servers.

However, we also have implemented a new strategy called "greylisting" to prevent unwanted email from reaching our customers. When a mail is delivered to our servers, the greylisting system asks the sending server to resend the email. In response to this, legitimate email servers will automatically queue and resend the mail, whereas spam servers typically do not resend. This effectively eliminates over 95% of spam email from ever reaching our servers. While most legitimate mail servers resend within 15 minutes, sometimes they may wait several hours before resending the mail causing a delay in when you receive the mail.

We maintain a list of email addresses that have successfully passed the greylisting test and allow those addresses to bypass it for future emails within a 15 day window. This ensures that people who communicate with you most often will have their emails delivered quickly and without unnecessary filtering.

If you are unsure why emails are being delayed to you, please contact us so that we can help troubleshoot.
